Key notes
- Microsoft paused Windows 11 24H2 update for Release Preview Insiders.
- Reason unknown, but some speculate it’s related to the Recall feature adjustments.
- Update expected to resume in coming weeks with exciting features like HDR wallpapers and Wi-Fi 7 support.
Windows Insiders expecting the new Windows 11 version 24H2 update might have to wait a little longer. Microsoft has quietly paused the rollout for those enrolled in the Release Preview Channel.
The news came as an update to the original announcement post for Release Preview insiders on May 22nd. It simply stated:
“We are temporarily pausing the rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2 to the Release Preview Channel. We will resume the rollout in the coming weeks.”
While Microsoft hasn’t provided a reason for the pause, speculation points towards the recently announced changes to the Recall feature, where it’d be set ‘off’ by default. Microsoft’s Windows Insider team had offered no further information beyond the update message.
Despite the delay, Windows 11 version 24H2 is still expected to reach the Stable Channel later this year. This major update promises exciting features like
- HDR wallpaper support
- Compatibility with the new Wi-Fi 7 standard
- Built-in Sudo functionality
- Integration of Rust in the Windows Kernel
The update is also expected to include Recall, though officially, it’s limited to the upcoming Copilot+ PCs launching on June 18th, 2024. There’s a workaround for enabling Recall on specific ARM-powered Windows machines, but for most users, waiting for the official rollout seems the best option.
Release Preview Insiders will have to wait for Microsoft to resume the rollout. For further updates, stay tuned to announcements from the Windows Insider Program.
