This is what Huawei's Android alternative might look like

The US-ban on Huawei took the turn for the worse last month as the Chinese smartphone maker lost access to Android as well as Windows. Worse, it also lost the ARM license. But, the sanction will unlikely to affect the company’s smartphone business as the way many thought it would.

Huawei predicted the 2019 US-ban long back and, therefore, started working on the Android and Windows alternative back in 2012 so as to minimize the damage. We didn’t hear much about Huawei’s Windows alternative but there is certainly a lot we know about the Android equivalent.

The smartphone OS with which Huawei will go head to head against Google’s Android had surfaced online. The company filed a patent under the name ”ARK OS,” which is now believed to be the Android alternative Huawei has been talking about since March.

As you can see in the above image, Huawei’s ARK OS hardly offers anything new when it comes to the look and feels. I won’t blame you if you end up thinking it as an Android skin. From what we can see in the image, the ARK OS looks like a twin brother of Android.

Interestingly, the screenshots of the apps that you are seeing in the above images are believed to be Android apps running natively in Huawei’s non-Android smartphone. Yes, according to the rumors, Huawei might support Android apps and you will be able to download these apps using a third party Store.

Fortunately for Huawei, the US commerce department gave a three-month reprieve, which will let them provide service and support, including software updates or patches, to existing Huawei handsets that were available to the public on or before May 16, 2019, meaning we are unlikely to see Huawei launch a new smartphone with ARK OS before the deadline.
