In a case of “I did not know it was still working”, today Instagram popped up a notice in their Windows Phone app announcing that they were sunsetting the app on the 30th April.

The notice notes that the service will remain available via the mobile web browser.

This is actually the second time the app disappeared after the app was briefly pulled last year when Instagram updated their Windows 10 app to a version incompatible with phones.  Instagram, however, started offering separate apps for Windows Phone and Windows 10, allowing them to update them separately (or not at all in the case of the Windows Phone app).

That appears to be coming to an end now, but with Microsoft themselves having stopped supporting the OS, this is of course not surprising in any way. One could actually more reasonably ask what took them so long.
