Google has announced new initiatives to combat online scams in Asia Pacific, where scam losses hit an estimated $688 billion in 2024 — nearly two-thirds of global losses. At its annual Online Safety Dialogue in Taiwan, Google revealed a partnership with Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs to share scam trend information, promote cross-border cooperation, and invest in education and awareness.

Through Google.org, the company will provide $5 million in anti-scam grants across Asia Pacific in 2025, adding to previous grants supporting organizations in Singapore and Taiwan. These funds will help nonprofits launch initiatives to protect people from online threats.

Google also highlighted the Global Signals Exchange (GSE), a real-time platform where 20 organizations now share nearly 180 million scam-related signals. In early 2025, Google expanded GSE’s reach, exchanging 10 times more signals than during its 2024 pilot phase.

Additionally, Google is expanding ShieldUp! — a mobile game teaching users to recognize scams — to Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand after its successful debut in India.

Google also emphasized that the fight against online fraud is only possible through strong partnerships and continued investment and innovation, in order to keep steps ahead of rapidly changing scams in the region.
