Mojang Studios has confirmed that there is no direct sequel in the making for Minecraft. Ingela Garneij, the executive producer of Minecraft Vanilla, spoke with IGN and commented on the topic by saying, “Do you think we’re going to have an Earth 2? No, no, there’s no Minecraft 2.”.

Instead of creating a sequel, Mojang will continue working on the original game, hoping to extend its lifespan by another 15 years. Garneij spoke about the challenges ushered in by the game’s aging technology but emphasized the team’s commitment to continuous innovation.

On the game’s monetization strategy, Mojang is not shifting Minecraft to free-to-play. Garneij said that the type of game does not support that sort of model, describing it as “the best deal in the world.” Agnes Larsson, Minecraft Vanilla game director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the direction they are taking is an expression of the game’s core belief.

Mojang’s approach is to build and develop the existing Minecraft world to keep it relevant and appealing to gamers worldwide.
