On June 4, 2025, during its State of Play event, Sony Interactive Entertainment introduced Project Defiant, its first wireless fight stick designed for PlayStation 5 and PC. This announcement marks Sony’s entry into the competitive fighting game hardware scene.

Project Defiant utilizes Sony’s proprietary PlayStation Link technology to offer ultra-low latency wireless connectivity, ensuring rapid response times crucial for fighting games. For those preferring wired connections, the fight stick also supports USB-C connectivity. The device features a custom-designed digital stick, mechanical button switches, and a DualSense-style touchpad.

Players can customize their experience with toolless interchangeable restrictor gates – square, circle, and octagon- to suit different playstyles. A built-in storage compartment holds these gates and the PS Link USB adapter. Additionally, the fight stick includes a sling carry case with a lever gap to protect the digital stick during transport.

Mark Julio, Evo’s Business Development Director, collaborated with Sony on Project Defiant, lending his expertise to the design. The fight stick’s aesthetic aligns with the PS5’s black-and-white color scheme, featuring the joystick on the left black side and six buttons – Square, Triangle, R1, L1, X, Circle, R2, and L2, on the right white side.

Sony plans to release Project Defiant in 2026. More details will be announced in the coming months.
