Blizzard is set to launch Stadium, a brand-new game mode for Overwatch 2, on April 22. This would be one of the biggest gameplay changes since the franchise’s debut. This best-of-seven, team-based mode adds deep customization and strategy, allowing players to upgrade their heroes with powerful new abilities over multiple rounds.

In Stadium, teams of five earn Stadium Cash based on performance — through eliminations, healing, and damage mitigation — and use it to purchase items and abilities between rounds. These upgrades range from simple stat boosts to game-changing powers. For example, Moira can now throw three orbs, and Reinhardt’s shield can transform into a healing barrier.

According to Senior Game Designer Dylan Snyder, Stadium is designed as a creative playground to push hero potential and gameplay experimentation, separate from the competitive core of Overwatch 2.

Key features include:

  • Earn Stadium Cash each round to upgrade your Hero
  • Unlock stat boosts and new powers through the Armory
  • Unique builds like Ana’s team-wide Nano Boost through walls
  • Emphasis on strategy, synergy, and adaptation

With high replayability and room for experimentation, Stadium offers a fresh take on the Overwatch experience just in time for Season 16.
