Microsoft today sent out invites for its press event at MWC 2019 which is happening next month in Barcelona, Spain. The pre-conference press event will have Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, CVP Julia White and Technical Fellow Alex Kipman. Microsoft’s press event is scheduled for 5PM CET, Feb 24, 2019. Alex Kipman’s presence indicates that it will be related to Mixed Reality. We think Microsoft will be talking about HoloLens vNext at this event. On a related note, we recently reported that HoloLens Developer edition and Commercial edition went out stock in the US.

There are few things we already know the HoloLens vNext. It will have an improved Holographic Processing Unit with more AI capabilities, and an improved Kinect-like depth camera. Microsoft is reportedly bringing development of the lenses internally to achieve this at a reasonable cost. Engadget reported that HoloLens vNext will be powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 processor. Neowin recently reported that HoloLens vNext will be based on Snapdragon 850 mobile platform, which was announced in June this year.
