The Google AI lab describes AGI as an AI system capable of performing a wide array of tasks at par with human-level proficiency or better. Considering the potential and associated risks of AGI, DeepMind is actively focusing on three core pillars: capability, alignment, and safety.
In addition, Google also highlighted the importance of continuous supervision and oversight through government regulations, public dialogue, and third-party evaluation. This exercise includes rigorous testing in real-world scenarios before any broad deployment of AGI.
DeepMind also states that its AGI initiatives will uphold human values and guard against misuse. The company aims to pursue these developments transparently to ensure that they yield positive outcomes for humanity.
