In celebration of World Book Day, Google announced a series of interactive features on its Play Books platform designed to make reading more engaging for children and families. Published yesterday on the official Google blog, the update introduces innovative tools that aim to foster a love of reading in the digital age.

The first feature, Read and Listen, offers a modern twist on traditional storytime. This tool allows entire ebooks to be read aloud while pages turn automatically, emulating the experience of a narrated story. A curated collection of children’s books is now available to explore using this immersive feature.

Additionally, the platform is introducing Reading Rewards — digital stickers that children can unlock as they read. These colorful rewards appear in the “Prizes” section of the Kid Reader toolbar within the Google Play Books Android app and Google Kids Space, offering a fun incentive for young readers to build consistent reading habits.

To support accessibility, a wide selection of children’s ebooks is available for under $5, and audiobooks under $6.

With these updates,Google Play Books continues the project of transforming reading into something more fun, gamified, and accessible for the next generation of readers.
