Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Capcom’s iconic Resident Evil franchise is gearing up for a wave of relaunches on current-gen consoles. And soon, you’ll be able to play the re-released version of these titles.

Recent ESRB ratings seemingly confirm native versions of Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Origins Collection, and the fan-favorite Resident Evil 4. These updated editions are set to debut on Sony’s PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and potentially the Nintendo Switch 2, which was announced recently.

More specifically, all those titles are enlisted for an Xbox Series launch, with only RE4 and Origins Collection making it to the Switch handheld.

So far, these titles are already playable on the Xbox Series thanks to its backward compatibility support. But, a relaunch suggests that Capcom is making a lot of tweaks here and there to make sure that they hold up to the console’s graphics capabilities โ€”  much like how The Last of Us Remastered is for Sony’s PS5.

Capcom has been enjoying success in recent years for the remakes of its classic Resident Evil titles. So far, the Japanese video game developer has released remakes of at least three successful remakes: RE2, RE3, and RE4, after making a comeback to its horror roots with Resident Evil 7 following the tanking recipient of action-focused RE6.

The story itself hasn’t progressed much after Resident Evil: Village, colloquially referred to as Resident Evil 8. That was in 2021.

And with these Resident Evil titles’ relaunches confirmed, we may need to wait a little longer for a Resident Evil 9 (or whatever they’ll call it). Capcom has previously confirmed that a new installment is in the making, but an industry insider Dusk Golem, which has quite a reputable track, predicted a 2026 release.
