The latest Windows Subsystem for Android preview update adds support for Vulkan APIs

Using Windows Subsystem for Android, Windows 11 PCs can run Android applications that are available in the Amazon Appstore. As part of the Windows Subsystem for Android Preview Program, users can download early-preview builds of the Windows Subsystem for Android and Amazon Appstore on Windows.

Microsoft today released a new Windows Subsystem for Android update (2307.40000.2.0) for preview program users. This new WSA update includes improvements to advanced settings, graphics reliability, and more. The main highlight of this release is the preview support for Vulkan APIs.

Vulkan is a cross-platform industry standard that allows developers to target a wide range of devices with the same graphics APIs. The Android platform includes an Android-specific implementation of the Vulkan API specification from the Khronos Group. With the preview support in WSA 2307, Android games running on Windows 11 can now use the Vulkan APIs. With this support, in the coming months, you can expect more Android games to run seamlessly on Windows 11 PCs.

In this update, Microsoft has also added support for custom Microsoft.Windows.LAUNCH_URI intent to launch apps on Windows via protocol activation.

Apart from the above, the new WSA update includes the following improvements.

• Updated latest Chromium WebView to version 115
• Android 13 security updates
