Windows 11 has now surpassed 400 million monthly active devices, according to internal Microsoft data seen by Windows Central.
This is a significant milestone for Microsoft, but it’s taken the company around two years to reach this point, which is a slower rate than Windows 10.
The reason could be a lot of things, but one thing for sure is Microsoft has been more cautious with its Windows 11 rollout, not wanting to pressure users to upgrade to an operating system that may not be ready for everyone despite reports.
When Redmond officials rolled out Windows 10, it was a free, limited-time promotion that put pressure on users to upgrade quickly. The company also used aggressive tactics to get users to switch from Windows 7 and Windows 8 — which obviously hasn’t been the case with Windows 11.
Despite the slower adoption rate, Microsoft is reportedly pleased with Windows 11’s progress so far. The company has consistently exceeded its internal goals for Windows 11 usage, and it’s expecting to reach half a billion monthly active devices by early 2024.
Not too long ago though, Microsoft finally put the 21H2 version of Windows 11 to its end-of-service window. That means there won’t won’t be any monthly security updates coming to the system.
