Windows 11 23H2 update will be available on Q4 of 2023

Microsoft is currently testing the Windows 11 23H2 update with Windows Insiders, and it will reach general users later this year. More specifically, Microsoft plans to release the update in Q4 of 2023. However, much like the Windows 11, version 22H2 released last year, the next Windows 11 update won’t be a big update, though there will be new features and improvements.

So, why isn’t Microsoft calling it a big update? Well, the software giant says that Windows 11 23H2 update will be “simple” and will be available via “a small enablement package (eKB).” Think of enablement package as a technical term to describe minor updates that share the same servicing branch and code base with the current update you’re running, which in this case should be Windows 11 22H2. Since there will be a lot of similarities under the hood between 22H2 and 23H2 updates, there won’t be any issue regarding application or device compatibility. If you are able to run Windows 11 22H2 update, you should also be able to run 23H2 without any issues.

If you’re still running Windows 11 21H2, you must update to 22H2 for the next update. Also, the end of servicing for 21H2 is on October 10, 2023, beyond which Microsoft will not push any security updates to your PC. Irrespective of whether you want to update to 23H2 later this year, you should definitely update your PC to Windows 11 22H2 before the end of servicing date.

Updating to a newer version of Windows means you will get a bunch of new features to play with. In Windows 11 23H2, Microsoft is reportedly planning to add some of the most anticipated features, including the “never combine” taskbar button, updated File Explorer, Windows Copilot, and many more. You can join the Windows Insider program and enroll in Dev or Canary Channel if you want to test these features before Microsoft rolls out to the general public. However, Insider updates are unstable and hence not recommended on your primary PC.
