Microsoft Edge is a pretty good browser, but in general, this is not good enough to convince the majority of Windows users to switch, given that the competition, in general, appears so much better, and also better supported with features such as extensions and new web technology.
Microsoft’s biggest claim to fame for Edge has better battery life, something Microsoft regularly touts with pop-ups in the task bar in an attempt to get users to switch.
Battery life is an important feature for a laptop user away from a power source, such as on a long flight, where it would make sense to switch to a slightly less convenient browser to get an extra hour or two of entertainment or work in.
Since Microsoft has made that claim however other browsers have not been standing still, with Chrome releasing a number of updates claimed to improve battery life.
Now YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips has engaged in an exhaustive battery life test, using both Microsoft’s own methodology and their own, which simulates regular web usage, and the result is unfortunately not good news for Microsoft.
Using both tests Edge performed well but was outcompeted by Chrome, Firefox. The news may disappoint Microsoft fans, but for everyone else means they can continue using the browser they are accustomed to without worrying about compromising their experience.
