Microsoft now finally lets you do something about those annoying (if you want to call it that way) “Start backup” reminders on Windows 11’s File Explorer.
Windows 11 24H2’s new Release Preview update (KB5052093) introduces a new option to snooze or disable the ‘Start backup’ reminder in File Explorer’s address bar. Microsoft brought this feature to the 23H2 version not too long ago, also via a Release Preview update.
It’s the feature that everybody wants because Windows 11 folks have been complaining about them for months. And they have left a lot of strong-worded complaints about it, too.
Other than that, the KB5052093 update also improves performance when loading folders with many media files and fixes issues such as incorrect URL navigation, address bar overlap in full-screen mode, slow context menu opening for cloud files, and inconsistent cloud file thumbnails in search results.
Microsoft is also bringing improved battery status icons and making it easier for you to check power levels at a glance—green for charging, yellow for power-saving mode, and red for low battery. You can now enable the battery percentage display in the system tray.
Other updates include a Game Pass referral card in Settings, new Narrator features, Windows Spotlight improvements, and enhanced file-sharing via the taskbar. These features, previously tested in the Dev channel, are rolling out gradually and are expected to reach all users soon.
The Release Preview channel is (normally) the closest to the stable release, so it’s safe to expect that Microsoft is shipping these any time soon in future Windows 11 mandatory updates.
