June 9, 2025 – The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced a partnership with Nvidia today to launch a “Supercharged Sandbox.” Starting in October, banks, fintechs, and asset managers can access Nvidia’s computers and AI stack to test finance tools.

The Sandbox gives smaller firms, which often lack infrastructure or expertise, a chance to build prototypes and algorithms that analyze data, automate tasks, or manage risk. Participants receive improved datasets and regulatory feedback as they explore ideas. Jessica Rusu, the FCA’s chief data, information, and intelligence officer, described the initiative as a means to help companies “test AI ideas but who lack the capabilities to do so”.

On the tech side, Nvidia’s Jochen Papenbrock emphasized that firms can work directly on the company’s accelerated computing platform. They can test advanced data analysis and automation tools under FCA guidance.

The sandbox reflects a broader push from Chancellor Rachel Reeves to reduce regulatory friction and boost economic growth. Reeves highlighted that both the FCA and the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority have just started cutting red tape to support innovation.

Nvidia also announced other UK-focused AI efforts at London Tech Week. These include a new AI Technology Centre in Bristol, collaborations with the UK Sovereign AI Industry Forum, and several private sector partners. This sandbox joins rising investment in UK AI infrastructure, such as Nvidia’s deal to boost compute power via cloud providers, alongside Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s £1 billion pledge to fortify AI systems nationwide
