Microsoft yesterday announced that Windows 10 tamper protection feature is now generally available to all users. Generally, hackers try to stop the Windows Defender Antivirus service in order to gain full access to your computer. Tamper Protection prevents malicious attackers from changing important Windows Defender Antivirus settings, including real-time protection and cloud-delivered protection. It is important to note that this Tamper Protection feature doesn’t affect how third-party antivirus apps work or how they register with Windows Security.
Organizations can deploy and manage Tamper protection through Microsoft Intune. For Windows 10 home users, tamper protection feature will be enabled by default to improve PC security.
“We believe it’s critical for customers, across home users and commercial customers, to turn on tamper protection to ensure that essential security solutions are not circumvented. We will continue working on this feature, including building support for older Windows versions,” wrote Shweta Jha from Microsoft Defender ATP team.
