While many believe that the original Ni no Kuni is a PS3 exclusive, the game did feature a port the original DS.
Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn was an all-new game wrapped around the story that existed on the PS3 version. It was a common strategy for handheld games back when portable devices weren’t even in the same league as the boxes plugged into our televisions.
Dominion of the Dark Djinn was only released in Japan, but fan-translators Zkarts and Anjiera have worked for eight years to bring the game to English audiences.
Ni no Kuni DS’ original version shipped with a Magic Book full of spells for use in the game. It’s essentially required to play, and it’s been translated as well.
There is only one major issue with the English patch: anti-piracy measures mean that the game cannot be put into sleep mode on a DS system. To circumvent this, you must save and exit the game when you want to stop playing.
The English translation patch for Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn is available to download here.
