Google's Pixel smartwatch details leaked, an Apple watch copycat?

Rumour has it that Google does have a Pixel smartwatch in the pipeline. And till now that was all we knew. A new patent for a smartwatch filed by Google recently may, however, shed some light on the future Pixel wristwear.

According to the new patent, the future Google’s Pixel smartwatch will enable users to easily exchange the bracelet of the smartwatch, much like how you swap your Apple watch’s band. This will be possible due to the presence of the magnetic holder which will allow you to quickly attach and detach the wristband.

This isn’t the first time we are seeing the Google filing patents for a smartwatch. Prior to this, we saw a different patent where Google discussed how users can use their fingers as a stylus to interact with the smartwatch.

Google’s entry to smartwatch business, however, shouldn’t surprise you. The company bought smartwatch technology from a company called  Fossils a few months back. Great hardware is however unlikely to make up for the stagnant software experience which is Androidwear, which despite a number of refinements remain slow and unwieldy.

It is noteworthy that patents often don’t translate to products and the similar can be true with this new smartwatch patent. However, now that we saw two back to back patents and acquisition of Fossils, it’s safe to say a Google smartwatch is definitely on the cards.
