Google is rolling out a long-requested update to Forms, bringing more control to forms that already exist. Starting today, users can limit who can respond to both new and previously published Google Forms.

This builds on a 2024 feature that added similar controls, but only for newly created forms. With the latest update, creators can now restrict access to older forms too, whether they launched last week or five years ago.

Users can choose who gets to respond: individuals, groups, or trusted audiences, just like with Docs or Slides. That means company managers can collect feedback from specific departments, and teachers can make sure quizzes stay within the intended classroom.

Other recent Google news –

To use it, creators need to publish the form first. After that, they can set response permissions inside the sharing settings. There’s no admin toggle to flip since the option lives entirely with the form creator.

The rollout for Rapid Release domains starts today and may take up to 15 days to show up. Scheduled Release domains will get it beginning July 8.

Everyone with a Google Workspace or personal account will see this feature. However, some of the finer audience controls require business or education-level Workspace editions.

Whether you manage internal surveys or school assignments, you no longer need to remake a form to gain tighter control. Google finally made old forms smarter, or at least more private.
