On May 29, 2025, Google rolled out Gemini summary cards in the Gmail app for Android and iOS. These cards automatically appear at the top of lengthy email threads, providing concise overviews without requiring user prompts. Previously, users had to tap “Summarize this email” to generate summaries. Now, Gemini identifies when a summary is beneficial and displays it directly within the email thread.
The summaries update in real-time as new replies arrive, ensuring users have the latest information at a glance. Currently, this feature supports only English-language emails. Users who prefer not to see automatic summaries can disable them by turning off “Smart features” in Gmail settings. Manual summary requests remain available for emails without automatic summaries.

The rollout began on May 29 for Rapid Release domains and will extend to Scheduled Release domains over the next 15 days. The feature is accessible to users with Google Workspace Business Starter, Standard, and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus; Google One AI Premium; and those with Gemini Education or Education Premium add-ons. Previous purchasers of Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons will also receive access.
This update enhances email management on mobile devices, allowing users to quickly grasp the essence of complex conversations without sifting through every message.
