Google’s AI chatbot Gemini is getting a big upgrade with a new “Memory” feature. This feature will allow Gemini to remember information you’ve shared in previous chats, such as your interests, preferences, and names of your friends, etc. This means you won’t have to repeat yourself as often, and Gemini will be able to provide more helpful and personalized responses over time. I hope it works for the instructions as well, as Gemini keeps forgetting something I have told it to follow, like writing a meta description in 120 characters, but every time I return to it, it gives me a lengthy description, even after telling it multiple times not to.
The Memory feature is optional, and users can choose to turn it off or manage what information is stored. This comes after OpenAI launched a memory feature similar to a paid upgrade for its ChatGPT chatbot.
In addition to memory, Google is also testing other features for Gemini, including:
- Increased prompt length: Users will be able to provide longer prompts, giving Gemini more context for its responses.
- Custom “Gems”: This feature allows users to personalize Gemini’s behavior for specific tasks.
- Document upload: Users will be able to upload up to 10 documents at once for Gemini to analyze.
These new features are expected to be a major focus at Google’s I/O conference tomorrow.
