Update: Anthem has been in production at BioWare for over 3 years. Many thought it was a new project but it’s really not.
BioWare and EA’s Anthem was one of the most promising new games shown off at E3 2017. Originally announced at EA Play 2017 and shown running on an Xbox One X at Microsoft’s E3 briefing the next day, it promises a deep RPG experience mixed with a massive open world for you and your friends to explore and do quests in – all while running at 4K on the Xbox One X. Needless to say we were impressed.
The game’s publisher Electronic Arts is also very impressed, with executive VP Patrick Soderlund saying that he thinks the franchise will go on for at least a decade.
Anthem is a social game where you and your friends go on quests and journeys. It’s a game that we’ve been working on for almost four years now, and once we launch it next year I think it’ll be the start of a ten-year journey for us.
It’s worth noting that the original plan for Destiny was similar, even if aspects of it fell through in the end. Bungie was originally going to release a completely new game every two years, with an expansion for the previous game one year after release. It’ll be interesting to see if the future EA sees for Anthem is similar.
Anthem is set to launch at some point in Fall 2018.
