On June 3, 2025, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature in its beta versions for Android (2.25.18.4) and iOS (25.17.10.75), allowing users to create personalized AI-powered chatbots. This addition leverages Meta’s AI Studio, previously available on Instagram and Messenger, enabling users to design chatbots directly within WhatsApp.

To build a chatbot, users begin by describing its role and purpose, with a limit of up to 1,000 characters. They then select personality traits and functional roles, such as mentor or helper. WhatsApp provides suggestions based on the initial description, but users can customize these attributes freely. Next, users design the chatbot’s avatar, either by editing auto-generated suggestions or creating new ones using text prompts.

Once configured, the chatbot becomes accessible for one-on-one chats. A dedicated AI Studio tab hosts both pre-built and user-created bots. While sharing options are currently unclear, similar features on Instagram and Messenger suggest that public sharing may be available in future updates.
