On May 27, 2025, WhatsApp officially launched its first native iPad app on the App Store. With version 25.16.81, iPad users can now install the app directly without relying on Safari workarounds or beta access. The app supports iPadOS 15.1 and newer. Interested users can install the app from the link here.
Once installed, the app prompts users to scan a QR code from their primary phone, syncing chats, calls, and settings. Both devices must stay online during the setup to sync up to one year of chat history. After that, WhatsApp works independently on the iPad.
WhatsApp mirrors the full mobile experience on iPad. Users can send messages, make calls, view statuses, follow channels, and manage communities. The interface supports split view, showing conversations and media side-by-side for better multitasking.

WhatsApp previously tested the iPad version in a closed beta via TestFlight. Developers used device-specific feedback to improve performance and usability. That feedback helped the company fine-tune the app for the larger screen and tablet-specific behavior.
TestFlight users can continue using the beta version, but the public release marks WhatsApp’s first complete iPad rollout. With native performance, full sync support, and a feature-rich interface, WhatsApp finally delivers a smooth messaging experience on Apple’s tablet.
