WhatsApp is testing out a new feature in its latest iOS beta update (version 25.15.10.70) that allows users to generate custom chat wallpapers using artificial intelligence. The functionality, currently under development, is powered by Meta AI and enables users to create wallpapers by entering text-based prompts.

Once a prompt is submitted, the AI generates multiple wallpaper options formatted to fit the user’s screen. Users can then apply the wallpaper either globally or to individual chats, offering greater personalization within the app. There is also an option to refine or regenerate designs based on user feedback. This would allow adjustments to elements like color, composition, and thematic details.

The aim appears to be offering users more control over the visual experience without relying solely on pre-designed backgrounds. While the feature is not yet available to all beta testers, it will soon roll out to stable build users.

This move aligns with Meta’s broader efforts to integrate gen-AI into its platforms, giving more customization options to its users. For now, WhatsApp has not announced a timeline for the full release of the wallpaper update, and the feature remains hidden for most users pending further development.
