When Borderlands: The Handsome Collection was announced for current-gen consoles, it unfortunately left out the first Borderlands from the mix in favor of remastering Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel. Fans could eventually play the original Borderlands on Xbox One through backward compatibility, but it just wasn’t the same. According to the Korean ratings board, which has been a leaky faucet lately, Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is getting a proper release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Gearbox Software released Borderlands almost ten years ago in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It became a quick hit with its unique brand of humor and style along with its self-described role-playing shooter mechanics, which Gearbox doubled down on for its sequel, Borderlands 2.

It’s unclear if Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will be remastered with enhanced visuals or if it will just be a re-released port. Either way, it’ll be good to earn its achievements again.

E3 2018 is coming up so it would be the perfect time to reveal a remaster ahead of an announcement for Borderlands 3 (or whatever Gearbox decides to call the next Borderlands). However, in Take-Two’s recent earnings call the company had stated that a highly anticipated title in a major franchise was delayed until its next fiscal year. Many speculate that this comment was referring to Borderlands 3, but it also could have been referring to the rumored BioShock sequel reportedly in the works.
