Acer is planning to dip their toe into back the Windows Phone market in the first half of 2014.

The phone will be aimed at people who want to use both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 and a coherent and complete experience and the company notes it is a “strategic play”

DIgitimes reported today that Acer and Asustek Computer were still struggling with their fragile smartphone businesses and that the two firms were adopting different approaches to increase their penetration of the market.

Acer’s last Windows Phone was the Acer Allegro , a low-end handset which came out in January 2012. Hopefully their new handset will be somewhat more inspiring.
