The fight against the notch is resulting in a massive amount of innovation in the smartphone world at present, and one of the changes we have been expecting from Samsung has been Sound on Display technology, which would connect the screen to piezo-electric devices which would turn the whole screen into a speaker.

Rumours that this may show up on the Samsung Galaxy S10 has faded, but it appears their Korean rival LG may beat them to the punch in bringing this technology to market.

Regular leaker OnLeaks claims the LG G8 (aka THinQ) may be the first to sport the technology, saying on twitter.

LG has used the ThinQ range for innovative sound experiences before, including the LG G7’s Boombox feature which turning the entire phone into a sound chamber.

The device may be released around May 2019 and be announced at MWC 2019 in February.
