We posted yesterday on a report that Samsung was working on an under-display selfie camera for a future smartphone.

Now we have some actual evidence that such a device is on Samsung’s roadmap, as a screenshot from a Samsung Display event held yesterday in China makes the division’s 2019 roadmap very clear, and that is to put everything under the screen.

In 2019 their screens will allow:

  • FoD, that is, the fingerprint technology under the screen.
  • UPS, under-screen sensor (including camera) technology.
  • HoD, Haptics and pressure-sensitive buttons under the screen
  • SoD, screen sound technology, this would be the front-facing speakers/earphones.

This would finally allow the full-screen bezel-less device that the industry has been working towards over the last few years, and it currently looks like we won’t have too long to wait. It has been rumoured that Samsung already has some working prototypes, meaning the devices could hit the market late 2019 or more likely 2020.
