Telltale Games has announced that the company is restructuring and that this will lead to a 25% reduction of its total workforce. 90 individuals from across all divisions have been laid off as a result.

While Telltale announced new seasons to several of its series over the summer including The Wolf Among Us Season Two and the final season of The Walking Dead, these layoffs are not expected to affect previously announced projects according to the company. This decision was made in part to make Telltale a more competitive developer focusing on high quality single-player narrative experiences.

This restructuring will be used as an opportunity for internal development to move over to more proven technologies. Hopefully this means its games will be getting a new engine, because the Telltale Tool currently being used is inadequate and riddled with bugs.

“Our industry has shifted in tremendous ways over the past few years. The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team,” said Pete Hawley, who was named the company’s CEO in September after Dan Connors stepped down.

We wish those affected the best of luck.
