Microsoft’s recent slew of studio acquisitions is not going unanswered at its primary competitor Sony as the Japanese company is set to purchase Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games.
Insomniac Games, the incredibly creative studio behind the Ratchet and Clank series, is a veteran developer with decades of experience. This generation alone, the team has created exclusive titles for both Xbox and Sony: Sunset Overdrive for the former, Spider-Man for the latter.
“Big news: @InsomniacGames is joining PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios!” PlayStation announced on Twitter. “We are honored and thrilled to join forces with this legendary developer. Please join us in congratulating our friends and partners at Insomniac!”

Insomniac Games has shown interest in making a Sunset Overdrive sequel for Microsoft in the past, but Xbox has failed to show interest after the original game’s release. With Insomniac’s critical and commercial success with Spider-Man, the Sony acquisition makes a lot of sense.
