Nvidia has issued a GeForce Hotfix Driver Update to address an issue of Edge freezing when playing video after installing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

The issue was acknowledged by Microsoft who wrote:

“Nvidia has notified Microsoft of an issue where Microsoft Edge may crash or hang while playing video. This issue occurs following an Nvidia driver update,”

GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 417.21 delivers the following fixes:

  • Memory Data Rate reporting incorrect value in NVIDIA Control Panel
  • Microsoft Edge does not respond after playing back video
  • Can’t apply colour format after updating to driver 417.01

Edge is not the most popular browser, but its possibly the best platform for playing streaming video on Windows 10, offering 4K Netflix for example while Chrome does not, while also using less power.

If you are using the Windows 10 October 2018 update with NVidia graphics, download the Geforce Hotfix from Nvidia here.
