Key notes
- Nintendo Switch 2 leaks have frustrated the company’s executives, said former PR managers.
- The company is now reevaluating security measures due to ongoing leaks impacting product reveals.
- The non-stop leaks include a third-party-made mockup, its launch date, pricing details, and more.
The Nintendo Switch 2 release is just around the corner, but as a company that loves surprises, Nintendo surely couldn’t keep Switch 2’s information from leaking.
And that really hurt its executives, a lot.
Two former Nintendo PR managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang spoke in their new podcast episode that Nintendo’s higher-ups are “really mad” about the non-stop leaks.
“This could impact how this huge product reveal is received because so much has leaked. And I think they have been so bad that Nintendo has just reached this point where they have to re-evaluate everything regarding how they handle information security & product security,” says Ellis.
The former Nintendo employees have a combined 25 years working at the company. They were also inside the company when the first Switch dropped, and while leaks were still inevitable, the company was still able to keep things securely under wraps.
“I am sure that they are really mad, to the most severe level.” says Yang. “They are very, very, very upset by this.”
As for how Nintendo is handling the leaks, Ellis says that Nintendo has “some really good people” working on it, but it takes time and “a lot of talking to everybody” to get to the bottom of it.
And that also is true. Genki, a third-party accessory maker, recently showcased its mockup of the Switch 2 which was based on the leaks and patents at CES 2025 earlier this month. It was big news, but it didn’t end without an expected visit from Nintendo’s lawyers to their booth and for the makers to leave the event earlier than expected.
There were also leaks over the hardware-focused trailer release, which will reportedly happen on January 16, and the console’s rumored €399 price tag.
