Nearly 25% of PCs are now running Windows 10

Net Market Share just released its report for the last month of 2016. The firm today revealed the market share for browsers and operating systems in December. According to the report, Windows 10 now claims 24.36% of the market. For comparison, the OS claimed 23.72% of the market back in November.

What’s quite surprising in the report is the fact that Windows XP actually gained a bit more market share in December. The OS claimed 8.63% of the market in November, but it apparently claims 9.07% of the market now. Windows 7 also saw a slight growth, growing from 47.17% to 48.34%. Windows 8.1 continues to fall, however — the OS now claims 6.9% of the market, down from 8.01% in November.

Apple’s macOS also saw a slight growth, going from 2.21% to 2.31% but unsurprisingly enough, the OS still doesn’t have a substantial market share. As for Windows 10, Microsoft still has a long way to go considering the fact that the company initially wanted the OS to power at least a billion devices within the first 2-3 years of is launch. However, the software giant later stated that the OS will be missing the company’s initial target, blaming its mobile business for the slow growth. Back in September, the company reported that Windows 10 was powering 400 million active devices but it likely didn’t reach 500 million as of yet. Most businesses are yet to upgrade to Windows 10, so the OS might see a huge push once companies start migrating to Windows 10.
