On May 16, 2025, Microsoft launched an advertising campaign asserting that its top-tier Copilot+ PCs outperform Apple’s M3 MacBook Air by up to 58% in multi-core performance, based on Cinebench 2024 benchmark tests. The campaign highlights the capabilities of Windows 11 devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processors.

Despite these performance claims, Copilot+ PCs have struggled to gain significant market share, accounting for less than 10% of PC shipments in Q3 2024. Microsoft aims to boost interest by emphasizing the performance and battery life advantages of these ARM-based laptops.

However, the benchmarks referenced in the campaign compare the Copilot+ PCs to the previous-generation M3 MacBook Air. Apple’s newer M4 MacBook Air, featuring enhanced performance and 16GB of unified memory, likely surpasses the Copilot+ PCs in overall capability.

While Microsoft’s bold marketing strategy seeks to position Copilot+ PCs as superior alternatives, the actual performance gap wouldn’t be the same for Apple’s M4-powered MacBook devices. Microsoft has shared more details about this comparison in its blog here.
