We reported today that WhatsApp is ending support for all versions of Windows Phone on the 31st December 2019, but there may be one ray of sunshine on this dark day.
There have been earlier rumours of WhatsApp working on a UWP app, and today regular WhatsApp leaker, WABetaInfo has “confirmed” that WhatsApp is definitely working on a UWP app.
I've talked about WhatsApp Business for iOS, WhatsApp Business for Android, WhatsApp for KaiOS and recently about WhatsApp Messenger and Business for iPad, before any public announcement from WhatsApp.
Today I can OFFICIALLY confirm that WhatsApp is working on UWP! It's real??? https://t.co/D5xMTNUvjs

They report the app will be heading to devices, including mobile, by the end of the year, presumably when the Silverlight app is being retired.
Facebook is, of course, working to renew all of their apps, with the move to unify their WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger platforms, meaning Facebook may be looking at making the one UWP app to rule them all.
With only 7 months before the end to the year, WhatsApp is hopefully already working on the app.
