With Windows 10, Microsoft introduced a new feature called Windows Spotlight. The feature is essentially a recommendation engine which recommends things like Windows 10 apps, some of the features of Windows 10, etc. in the Windows 10 Lock screen. The feature also delivers “Suggested Apps” on the Start Menu, which may be seen as Advertisements to some users. Additionally, this feature also delivers some nice wallpapers for the Lock screen in Windows 10.

Now, if you don’t want these features and want to disable Windows Spotlight, don’t fret as this is really easy to do. Here is how to:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Navigate to the Personalization section
  3. Choose Lockscreen from the sidebar
  4. Open the dropdown “Background” and change Windows Spotlight to Picture or Slideshow
  5. After that, disable the toggle “Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen
  6. …and you are done!
