On May 22, 2025, Google rolled out major updates to Gemini’s Deep Research feature during Google I/O. Workspace users can now upload PDFs and image files directly, letting Gemini analyze and combine that content with public data to generate smarter, more comprehensive reports

The updated tool suggests additional sources like planning simulators and charts, helping users build more data-rich documents without switching tabs. Once Gemini drafts a report, users can edit it inside Canvas before exporting to Google Docs for collaboration or review.

Google made these updates available across most Workspace plans, including Business Starter, Enterprise, and Education tiers. The company framed the enhancements as a way to improve productivity and reduce manual research effort.

This move deepens Gemini’s role inside Workspace, bringing it closer to the workflow for tasks that require information gathering, visual aids, and sharing. Google’s push here follows a broader trend among productivity platforms to automate more of the document creation process.
