Albuquerque Public Schools, or APS, one of the biggest school districts in the country, is already leaning into artificial intelligence as a means of bettering education and being more efficient. Serving over 70,000 students and employing more than 5,000 educators, APS has adopted Google’s Gemini AI to support teachers in delivering personalized and engaging learning experiences tailored to the diverse needs of students.

The integration of Gemini is helping teachers to spend less time in administrative and planning tasks. One teacher who used to spend four hours a week planning lessons now spends just twenty minutes. In the same way, the process of writing grants, which used to take several work sessions to complete can now be done in one sitting. Gemini enables teachers to create lesson plans, tests, rubrics and other materials, freeing them to spend more time interacting with and developing students.

In keeping with its mission to prepare students for the future, this fall APS will begin a Gemini pilot project for students 13 and older.

Thus, the purpose of this project is to introduce students to be literate in AI, provide students with early exposure and skills relevant in a technology – driven world.

APS has made teaching more efficient. and empowering both learners and learning facilitators to do well in an environment that is more reflective of our world.
