Discord has just launched two optional perks that let servers use Boosts more flexibly by unlocking features without achieving higher levels. Server admins can now spend Boosts immediately on either “Enhanced Role Styles” or “Server Tags,” each costing three Boosts.

Admins access a new “Server Boost” tab located above the channel list. The tab displays total Boosts available, allowing them to allocate Boosts toward level progression or these new perks. Once they assign Boosts to a perk, they click Enable Perk and Configure to customize it .

Enhanced Role Styles lets servers apply animated gradient effects to roles. With three Boosts, role colors transition smoothly, from red to purple or blurple to blue, making roles stand out during chats or in member lists.

Server Tags give members a four-character tag and pixel-style icon that appear next to usernames across Discord, including chats and profiles. They can optionally let non-members apply to join their server from the tag .

These perks remain active as long as servers keep the required Boost count. If Boosts fall below the threshold, perks deactivate immediately, animated role styles revert to static colors, and tags vanish from profiles. However, existing level-based perks still enjoy a 72-hour grace period before they expire.

This change gives small or mid-size communities access to fresh ways to express identity and reward members, without needing to wait for Level 3. Large communities with extra Boosts can apply these perks on top of existing features. Both perks are available now on Discord desktop, rolling out gradually .
