Earlier this morning, the US President — Donald Trump — unleashed yet another incoherent screed on Twitter. This time, it was about Google, and how it was so very unfair to him — the most powerful man in the world.

He had discovered that Googling himself would surface negative news reports (we can only imagine why), and came to the conclusion that it must be Google who was biased against him.

“Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake New Media.,” Mr. Trump raged on Tuesday, “In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD .The firm struck back in a comment to CNBC today, denying that his comments had any veracity.

“When users type queries into the Google Search bar, our goal is to make sure they receive the most relevant answers in a matter of seconds. Search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology. Every year, we issue hundreds of improvements to our algorithms to ensure they surface high-quality content in response to users’ queries. We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment

In Google’s defence, negative Trump news appears no matter whether one searches Yandex, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. Perhaps the US President ought to check under his metaphorical shoe.
