Key notes
- Google Search may soon feature a “Short Videos” filter for YouTube and Instagram’s short video formats.
- Folks spotted clues of this feature in development for Android, though it’s not functional yet.
- The filter is possibly expanding to desktop later.
A lot of apps want to be TikTok so badly by introducing their own versions of short, vertical formats of videos: YouTube has Short, Instagram has Reels, and now, it’s Google Search that will have a filter for this format.
Folks over at PiunikaWeb (via @AssembleDebug on X) have apparently found clues that hint at this feature. The code-digger finds out Google Search now has a “Short Videos” filter on Android. And it’s pretty much self-explanatory: it can give you short video results from Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube shots.Â
Unfortunately, this feature is not working just yet for the time being, as it’s still in the beta testing process. The report says that this option goes poof and disappears when tapped and refreshes the page, so we don’t know the layout for these short videos just yet.
But one thing for sure is that the filter sits near All, Images, Video, News, and Shopping filters on Google Search, and it may possibly arrive on the desktop version as well.
Honestly? This filter looks useful, especially if you’re looking for shorter explanation of things. Even LinkedIn has now tested its own TikTok-style feed, although it’s not necessarily for entertainment.
