Google is adding a new feature to its Vids tool that turns written content from Docs, Sheets, and Slides into short video clips. The feature, announced in a Workspace blog post, allows users to select existing documents and automatically generate video drafts based on the content. These drafts include suggested visuals, narration, music, and structure, which can be edited and customized before finalizing.
The new function is integrated directly into the Google Vids interface and aims to simplify video creation by using context from existing Workspace files. Users can review the auto-generated storyboard and make changes, such as editing voiceovers, adjusting visuals, or selecting different background music. Once completed, videos can be exported or shared with collaborators.

The update represents a step toward integrating more multimedia functionality into Workspace tools without requiring external video editing software. Google says this feature will roll out in the coming months to Workspace Labs participants.
Google Vids, introduced as part of the Workspace suite in 2024, will now help simplify video creation for work settings, including presentations, team updates, and project summaries. The latest addition reinforces Google’s intent to bring video production closer to where collaborative work already happens.
