Xbox-exclusive Sunset Overdrive is now owned entirely by PlayStation, confirms Sony.

Following Sony’s acquisition of Spider-Man and Sunset developer Insomniac Games, many wondered where the rights for the Xbox exclusive now lay. The answer: in Sony’s literal IP binder. (I’m sure that exists.)

During an interview with Japanese publication Sunset Overdrive, Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida confirmed Sony’s acquisition of the IP.

“SIE holds the rights to past Insomniac Games works,” Yoshida confirmed. “Insomniac is a powerful developer… I am looking forward to future titles.”

Before Insomniac’s acquisition by Sony, Microsoft was keen to rekindle love for the underrated third-person shooter. With a fantastic PC port now available and the introduction of the game into Xbox Game Pass, many thought that we would finally see a sequel. If we do, it won’t be on Xbox.

Sunset Overdrive transforms an open-world apocalypse into your tactical playground. Zip, grind and wall-run across Sunset City with an unconventional arsenal. Hyper-agility, unique weapons, and customizable abilities deliver an explosive and irreverent adventure in the end times.

Have you played Insomniac’s game? How do you feel about Sony owning the rights? Tell us in the comments below.
