Windows September Market Share

New numbers from Net Applications for the month of September revealed that Windows 7 is back on growing path after it saw a slight decline last month.

Windows 7 continues to dominate at the top with the OS now over 52.71% market share, up from 51.21% percent in August. Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 saw slight decline to 5.59% and 6.67% from 6.28% and 7.09% respectively. Windows XP saw a slight decrease to 23.87% down from 23.89% last month.

Mac OS X currently holds a 4.05% share, while Linux holds a 1.64% share. Windows Vista still holds a market share of 3.07%.

Windows 7 continues to hold its position even after sales of devices based on its has been stopped by OEMs. Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are not getting enough momentum to grow in a rapid manner. Hopefully, Windows 9 technical preview can offer the much needed acceleration in the coming months.
