Key notes
- You can now search ChatGPT history on the web, just like on mobile.
- OpenAI announces that it’s launching for paid users for now & to free users later.
- The announcement came just in time with ChatGPT’s upcoming second anniversary.
It’s been a long time coming, but you can now search ChatGPT history on the web (chat.openai.com or chatgpt.com)
OpenAI announced recently that the feature is now live for Plus and Team users, whereas subscribers of the Enterprise and Edu plans will get to try the feature next week. And, as for free users, the company mentions that it’ll open the experience next month.
“Now you can quickly & easily bring up a chat to reference, or pick up a chat where you left off,” says the AI company in the announcement.
It may be surprising to see such an essential feature introduced nearly two years after ChatGPT’s initial release in 2022. ChatGPT, which is now available as a standalone app on both Mac (and Windows as an early beta for now), launched this feature a while ago on mobile.
Speaking of ChatGPT’s second anniversary, OpenAI will reportedly launch a new model called Orion in December.
But, unlike the GPT-4o or o1, Orion won’t be powering the AI chatbot. Instead, companies and partners can use the model to build their own AI. Microsoft is also reportedly preparing to host Orion on Azure with advanced Nvidia H100 GPUs, anticipated by November.
Earlier this year, the Microsoft-backed company also launched a “temporary chat” feature on ChatGPT. It allows private conversations not to be saved in the chat history, ideal for sensitive discussions especially as OpenAI uses human reviewers to train the model, too.
