Rotation lock | Driving Mode | Close App in multi-tasking |
A WPC Forum reader purchased a Nokia Lumia 920 via Craigslist and was surprised to find the handset running the as yet unreleased version of Windows Phone, GDR3, with Lumia Bitter Sweet Shimmer.
The OS is version 8.0.10484.103, and includes a number of previous leaked enhancements, including a screen rotation lock, driving mode, the ability to close apps via the multi-tasking screen, and also the ability to set up WIFI before restoring your phone, meaning it can be done without a cellular connection.
Unfortunately separate volume controls and custom notification sounds were not found in this build.
See more screen shots after the break.
Like Nokia Amber, GDR3 has a special Nokia name, Lumia Bitter Sweet Shimmer | The OS version is 8.0.10484.103 |
There is now a setting to activate rotation lock | It looks like it will be a bit clunky to activate however. | Apps can now also be closed via the multi-tasking window. |
There is now also a driving mode, which is a safety feature only. | It will allow users to ignore calls and texts, and even auto-reply. | And can be activated automatically when connected to Bluetooth. |
XS2K also notes that battery life appears to have improved significantly with the update.
We expect the fist GDR3 handsets to ship towards the end of the year, and the OS update to follow soon after.
