Halo Wars 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning that digital purchases of the game will work on both the Xbox One and Windows 10. Until now, there’s yet to be any physical release for any Windows 10 Store game, and that’s changing. Microsoft and 343 Industries have teamed up with THQ Nordic (formerly Nordic Games) to get Halo Wars 2’s PC version brought to retail. It’ll be available in stores the day the game releases, and you can see a picture of it below.

The main draw of a physical copy is having a box, and Halo Wars 2’s looks great. There are four DVDs – which are used to install the game – on the inside, as well as the code needed to activate the game in the Windows Store. Interestingly enough, this means that even the physical PC version of Halo Wars 2 will count as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, granting you the Xbox One version of the game as well.

The Ultimate Edition of the game is also getting a physical release, which – much like its Xbox One and digital counterparts – will release four days earlier than the standard edition, and includes Halo Wars: Definitive Edition.

This is the very first time a Windows 10 game has gotten a physical release, and hopefully both Microsoft and THQ Nordic will work to release more physical versions of other games on the platform as time goes on.

It sadly doesn’t seem to be possible to purchase the physical version of Halo Wars 2 for Windows 10 at the time of writing, but it’ll be easy to find when the game releases on February 21st. You can pick up an Xbox One copy of the game on Amazon here.

Are you going to buy a physical copy of Halo Wars 2 for Windows 10, or would you rather get it digitally? Let us know in the comments below!
